Privacy policy

This policy explains which personal data are processed when you use this website. The contact details of the controller are given in the “Controller” section.

1. Accessing the website, and hosting

When you access a page, your browser transmits technical connection data to the web server. These include in particular your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page or file requested, the HTTP status code, the volume of data transferred, the page previously visited (referrer) and information about your browser and operating system. These data are necessary for delivering the website and for operating it securely. The processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

The website is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH.

2. Storage in the browser

The website stores the selected language and the chosen cover image in your browser's local storage. This information is not transmitted to the association. If local storage is not available, the image selection may instead be held in the window name of the browser tab. The website does not use cookies for this.

Storing information on your device, or reading information from it, is additionally governed by § 25 TDDDG (German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act). Consent is required unless the storage is strictly necessary in order to provide a service that you have expressly requested.

3. External content and links

If you select the TCV site on the map of Europe, your browser loads a photo directly from the EPFL website. In doing so, EPFL receives in particular your IP address and technical connection data. The other source references to external websites are only retrieved when you click the link in question. The privacy notices of those providers apply to any subsequent processing by them.

4. Newsletter and application form

When you submit the newsletter form or the scholarship application form, your details are transmitted in encrypted form to the association's server, together with the language version of the website from which you submitted them. A program on the server forwards them immediately as an email to the mailbox info@kernfusion.eu and does not store them itself. The association operates its web server and mail server itself at Hetzner Online GmbH.

For the newsletter, your email address and your consent are transmitted. The association uses the address solely to send you the newsletter. It sends the newsletter itself by email, without a mailing service, in such a way that recipients cannot see one another's addresses. The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You may withdraw it at any time with effect for the future, for example by email to info@kernfusion.eu; your address will then be removed from the mailing list. Until you withdraw it, it remains stored.

For a scholarship application, your first and last name, email address, university, degree programme, semester of study, your text on your contribution to nuclear fusion, your CV and cover letter as PDF files, and your three confirmations (independent authorship, citizenship of an EU member state, having read this privacy policy) are transmitted. The association processes them in order to review your application, decide on the award of the scholarship and contact you about it. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, as the processing is necessary for steps taken at your request prior to the award of the scholarship. Only the association's board has access to the applications. The details marked with * are required; without them, an application cannot be considered.

5. Contact by email

If you send an email to the association, it processes your sender address, the content of your message and any attachments sent with it, in order to handle and answer your enquiry. Depending on the matter, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The message is deleted as soon as it is no longer needed for handling the matter, unless statutory retention obligations or legitimate grounds for longer storage apply.

6. Cookies, analytics and advertising

This copy of the website embeds no analytics or marketing services and sets no cookies. The local storage of the language and image selection is described in the “Storage in the browser” section.

7. Recipients and transfers to third countries

Technical connection data may become known to the hosting provider. When the TCV photo is loaded, EPFL receives technical connection data. Newsletter and application details are received solely by the association; they are processed on its own servers at Hetzner Online GmbH and are not passed on to third parties.

8. Controller

The controller for the processing of personal data on this website is:

Bundesverband für Kernfusion e.V.
Tannenbergstraße 2
85748 Garching b. München

9. Data protection officer

The association has appointed a data protection officer, who can be reached at:

Jonas Veit
Bundesverband für Kernfusion e.V.
Email: data-and-culture@kernfusion.eu

10. Retention period

The association stores personal data only for as long as is necessary for the respective purpose, and deletes them afterwards unless statutory retention obligations or other legal grounds prevent this.

11. Your rights, and right to lodge a complaint

Subject to the statutory conditions, you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw it with effect for the future. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests on grounds relating to your particular situation.

You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. For questions about the processing of your data, please contact the data protection officer or the body named in the “Controller” section.
